Typography 30 day challenge

Typography: Day 1

My friend Sara suggested a typography challenge for my next 30 days. I kind of cringed at that the thought of doing Typography every night. Why? Well I have about an hour a night to do my challenge after putting the kids to bed after a full day of work. Typography to me is something that requires lots of thought and plenty of time. So as I was about to say no way my coworker Aude(an amazing designer) stated, "It is a challenge after all." Aude was right it should be a challenge and Typography would indeed be a challenge for me.

So Sara here we go 30 days of Typography. They may not be complex. As a matter of fact somedays I will be lucky to just design a letter or number but it is a challenge. My first design I will keep simple. A proverb I learned as a kid in my parents attempt to make me wise.  

Shapes & Color: Done

So here are all the final shapes with color. The shapes are so varied. Some shapes look like characters while others look like digital UI. To place them on a grid is not ideal but I do like looking at them all at once. I guess its just the feeling of accomplishment. I do have some favorites out of all of them.

This is one of my favorites. It feels like some sort of bot. Its not complex at all but it has so much life and personality.

This is another favorite. It is like some sort of sci fi thing that will suck your brains out. Feels a lot like a metroid. I love the colors and once again the Simplicity of it.

Last but not least this one is so great! It may be my most favorite. The colors are so perfect and the shape is so odd but it just has character. You may disagree but I love this shape & color.

So what to do now? My friend Sara said to go for some typography. It would really be good for me. I am just not quite sure if I have the time. But it would look great and it would help me in some of my weaker areas. We will see but over all I have been loving this 30 day challenge.

Shapes & Color: Day 30

Shape 30 is here. Its been 30 days since the first shapes & colors and time has flown by. I started this for fun and now it has turned into an obsession. Tomorrow I will place all the shapes together and post the full 30.

So what is next? I need to keep going on something because this has been helping me so much lately. Shapes have helped me stretch out of what I normally design. The colors have helped me insanely in my every day coloring! I have made so many color pallettes that I love and that I have referred to.  So I will still give thought to what I will be doing for the next 30 days. As for now check out all the past shapes and colors of the last 30 days.

So, one day till the end of this challenge. I am still not sure what to start next for my 30 day challenge. I know that I may be way busy. Still I have to stick to my guns. So I was thinking I could mock up UI, skate decks(just have never done it), or websites. Maybe I could design numbers starting with 00 and going to 30. I don't know! We will see. Nevertheless I am sure a decision will be made soon.

I was a little late with these so threw them on a shirt. Of course is I really don't want to modify the shape at all. So it feels really plain. I would do a lot more to it if I really had to mock up a shirt.  Anyways day 28 down!

A way different route but had to. Just need to break it up a bit.

Shapes & Color: Day 26

So I keep making shapes but sometimes they just don't feel right. So I will make another. Sometimes things just don't seem to work out. So I got todays shape and just rotated it then I began to see some life in it. It is an interesting shape that seems to look like some robot skull. I wanted to keep adding and taking away from this one but had to leave well enough alone. 

By the way I tried all kinds of colors on this one and loved them all. This color however was just really bright and in your face. So I stuck with it. Enjoy day 26 of my labor.

A little weird but as I was sketching the shape in my mind it was very different. As I took it to illustrator it became even more weird. I still like it as weird as it is. Day 25 is done!

I don't know why, but this one is cute. Ha ha, seriously it just looks like a little futuristic pet. Yah I am a dork, day 24 down.

Shapes & Color: Day 23

Trying to use different shapes. After a while my brain gets stuck wanting to do the same shapes. Need to fight and break out of the normal. However they start becoming more of an illustration. So have to keep it basic. Day 23 done

Shapes & Color: Day 22

This shapes is a little more childish and playful then the last one. Trying to break out and do a little change by adding more romper room colors. It is amazing how colors can reach different age groups. That is something that really comes in handy when making designs using the colors that properly represent the demographic. Oh well, here it is day 22.

Shapes & Color: Day 21

No gradients on the shapes, solids only. Still, it feels like I have gradients on it. 

On another note I have been contemplating on what to do for my next 30 day challenge. I was thinking about UI. Maybe just players, buttons, meters and stuff. Or maybe some motion animation? Of course it has to be simple enough for me to do it quickly. Well, I will continue thinking about it. If you have any ideas let me know.
