We live in a time when we want everything now, in fact right now! I’m seeing this lived out in my 1 year old daughter. There have been a couple of instances that she has thrown a tantrum because we have not feed her quick enough. She doesn’t see that if we heaped a spoonful of food into her tiny mouth at that moment she would experience a not so pleasant experience. Adults are no different. We too, want everything NOW. Next time you’re at the grocery store or Costco take note on how long the frozen food section is with instant meals. There was a time not too far long ago when we used to prepare all our own meals. People would actually buy the various components of a meal, prep it and then cook it. This whole process which took about 2 to 4 hours was done each day and the experience of eating the food only lasted about an hour.
Today everything is NOW. Everything is prepared for us and all we need to enjoy our choice of meal is pop it into the microwave and BAM, in minutes we are eating. No longer do we have to toil over a stove, mix the recipe correctly, or wait for the heat to cook the meal. Today, in our microwave age, all we do is enjoy. Unfortunately, this microwave mentality has crept into the church and the maturing of our spiritual lives.
We want the experiences now, primarily the experiences of joy and happiness. So we wander the isles looking for the thing that will provide what we want instantly. It could be the latest worship song, the latest popular preacher, or the newest “How Too” Christian book. The sad thing is…they don’t last. Now, God WANTS us to experience “experiences” but, His way, and His way is a lot more impacting and lasting.
Over the next few posts I want to examine how we have been affected by this way of living and how God’s way, of us experiencing joy is much more lasting and impacting.

Yeah, just what I needed ‘Dre…another teaching on “needing to be patient.” Gosh, lol. I’m blessed with the initial installment of the series. Would it be possible for you to delve into the “how to be patient”? Oh and umm, can you get them all posted by the end of this week :-p
